Moving Made Easy – Tips to Simplify Your Packing

Packing is considered as one of the most tedious tasks associated with moving. However, you can make this chore simpler and stress-free by following these quick tips.

One of the most challenging tasks associated with moving is that of packing. Not only is this time consuming, it can also be frustrating since there's a lot of details to deal with such as procuring moving boxes, emptying rooms, and sorting and grouping items.

If you're set to move to a new home, you're probably aware how complicated and stressful packing can be. However, it's possible to simplify the task if you just follow some steps to keep everything in perspective. So to get you started and keep packing as stress-free as possible, here are some useful tips you can follow.

Begin Early

Packing early is the key to make this chore less stressful. Even if you don't have an exact date as to when you'll be moving to your new home, but your current house is already on the market, you need to start packing. However, if you are already aware about the moving date, give yourself at least three to four weeks to completely pack your belongings.

Take an inventory

Before placing items in a moving box, it's essential for you to go through your entire house and take an inventory of the things you need to bring to your new home. This is also the perfect time for you to discard items that you no longer use. When taking an inventory, group items based on their purpose so that it will be easier for you to know which boxes the objects should go into.

Set a packing schedule

Keeping a day-to-day packing calendar is a great way for you to lighten up the chore and keep track of your packing progress. With a schedule, you can record all aspects related to your packing. For instance, you can purchase all the moving supplies you need on the first day of your packing schedule. Then, allot the remaining days to pack the items in the bedroom, kitchen, living room, etc.

Prepare your supplies and keep them accessible

If you have already purchased all your packing supplies, keep them organized and accessible by designating a storage area for them. You can neatly stack your moving boxes in one corner of your bedroom. Small items like scissors, colored makers and tape, on the other hand, should be kept in a container or bins so that you can easily carry them around.

Layer things up when packing

When packing, layer items properly. That is, all heavy items should settle at the bottom of the box, medium-weight items in the middle, and lighter objects on top. This will allow you to maximize the available space and at the same time limit the number of objects in one box.

Don't forget to put labels

When you are done packing each box, don't forget to place labels on them. Include details as to what each box contains, where it should go once delivered in your new home, and which boxes should be unpacked first. Also indicate if the items in the boxes are fragile.
